We’re on the last pair of lipsticks that I will review for 2016 and yep, it’s my first time to try Beauty Bakerie’s Lip Whips in Ginger Snap & Bae.

PACKAGING

Aside from the fun colours of their packaging, Beauty Bakerie has a cute way of naming their products (mostly related to baked goodies/sweets).

SWATCHES & COMPARISONS

*please note that due to the difference in undertones, the shades may look brighter or darker to different people.

For your reference here are my shades:
NC25 (MAC Pro Longwear Foundation) / 1.5 (MAC Matchmaster) Y225 (MUFE Ultra HD) / Light 4 Deauville (NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation)

GINGERSNAP

I would describe this as a warm brown-red with a flat matte finish. You may think that this is almost like Kylie’s Ginger or ABH’s Ashton, but nope. This is a bit darker and has a hint of red like the colour that we relate to redheads or auburn.

BAE

I was excited for this shade because it’s my first blue lipstick and I was expecting a different shade (based on the photo shown on their website). But when I applied it, it was darker than I expected! Like a totally different shade of blue! Was it my lighting? Definitely not. I tried every possible angle but nothing closer the photo below.

But anyway, it is still a bold colour that you can rock anytime, anywhere.

Price:

  • Beauty Bakerie’s Lip Whips are sold at 20 USD each
  • Available in Carousell Singapore at around 34 SGD – PingBong Shoppe

VERDICT:

Beauty Bakerie Lip Whips are supposed to be long-lasting, smudge-proof, and waterproof and while these may be true, there are also some things that I want to share about my experience with their liquid lipstick:

  • First, I noticed these get darker as they stay on the lips.
  • I like Gingersnap better than Bae because it’s easier to wear. Bae can be a bit problematic to apply especially if you don’t use a lip pencil, to begin with (and I don’t use lip liners when testing lip products).
  • They are sticky even after they dried down.

Long-wearing? YES. Drink and eat with it, no problem! However,  my lips felt dry towards the 3rd hour of wear. Being a matte lipstick lover, I can say that I a have high tolerance for this kind of lipsticks but Bae wasn’t comfortable on my lips. It could be that I applied too much? (Actually, I only had 2 coats)

Now since this is waterproof, you can be assured that it’s a bit of a pain to remove. Here’s a demo when I removed the lipstick with a waterproof makeup remover. I think it is best to use a coconut or olive oil with this one.

Excuse the makeup mess on the video as I was already removing my makeup when I realised that I should take a video while removing the lip whip.

So my final thoughts? I like Ginger but not so much for Bae. As for the formula, I like that it may be more long lasting than other liquid lipstick but if I can get comfort and long-wear from brands like Ofra, Jeffree Star or Anastasia Beverly Hills… I will go for them.

Overall, I’m giving this a rating of 3.0 stars.
