Romantic bibliophiles and coffeeholics! This story is for us!
IN A NUTSHELL…
Beatrix (Bea) Babbage is a certified book lover who has a BFF who’s also a bibliophile. On her best friend’s wedding day, tipsy Bea accidentally spilt a secret that will forever change the life of the couple. #weddingscandal
dun dun dun dun…
With too much drama, tears and emotions after the big reveal, Bea decided to leave and relocate to Melbourne. She needed a fresh start – a place where no one knows her; a place where she can find herself and be the person that she’s supposed to be.
She found a job that she loathes and her circle is very intimate (not by choice) and her love life? Zero! NADA! Coffee and books are the only things that make her smile. And oh! the quotes on her coffee cup that her barista (Dino) would scribble every time she orders her latte.
Then one day, Bea visited a book store and found a second-hand book with handwritten/personal notes on its pages. Her fascination with the author led her to do things just to find the person behind the notes. While looking for the author, Bea met Zach and they became a thing until she realised that she has feelings for Dino (our poetic barista) and the feeling’s mutual. Love triangle much? ahuh ahuh!
T H O U G H T S…
Bea’s character started as this weak persona and she’s what we can call as a pushover. People are always deciding for her and she’d always agree. It’s a two-way street really because her family & friends wanted to protect her, and at the same time, she never says no to anyone even if she hates it.
But Grover Dinopoli (Dino) changed that without her noticing. He’s the person who pushes her to go after her dreams. And that’s how a partner should be. I love Dino’s character from the moment he was introduced in the book. He’s sweet. A rare breed of man! And I love how he would write quotes on Bea’s coffee cups!
He Loves Me, I Love Him but…
Zach may be the perfect guy on paper but in reality, we don’t like perfect. We want the crooked & cooky ones and like how Selena Gomez puts it, “the heart wants what it wants” And while Bea secretly longed for Dino, she’s still in a “relationship” that she never wanted to begin with. Ganun siya kalala!
Bea & Dino’s relationship reminded me so much of Rachel & Ross’ (FRIENDS) situation – where there’s always something in the middle of them! Either pride, wrong time, another person or a misunderstanding and while it’s too obvious that they got a thing for each other, they still don’t want to say it, dammit!
After reading The Book Ninja, I was excited to get my hands on this title. I found similarities with the first book and some of the character from the previous novel made an appearance, too. While You Were Reading is a romance novel that will make your heart flutter. There were funny moments but I was not LOL-ing as much as I did with The Book Ninja.
