If you will search for Artis brush reviews, I’m very sure that you can find a lot (written & videos) because this is not something new. But since I just got them last February, I’m here to share my thoughts and feelings for this oval brushes.

I’ve been using them for a month now but I wanted to collect my thoughts before posting a review.

THE BRUSHES

As a birthday gift for myself, I ordered for the following:

• Elite Gold Oval 7 (Limited edition)
• Elite Smoke Oval 3
• Elite Smoke Linear 1

The basis of my decision was the functionality of the brushes. I felt that it’s not necessary to get the whole set (but if it will be gifted, I don’t see the reason why I’ll say no!) and with these 3, I’m confident that I can make the most out of them.

ELITE SMOKE LINEAR 1

Let’s begin with the smallest brush in the group – the Linear 1. This fine & thin brush can be used to apply makeup on the:

• upper and lower lash line
• brows
• lips (lip liner)

ELITE SMOKE OVAL 3

This is used for:

• blending liquid foundation and concealer near the eye area and or nose.
• shading & blending the products applied to the outside and inside corners of the eyelid and smaller areas of the eyelid.

ELITE GOLD OVAL 7 – “The Perfect Brush” 

It was called the “perfect brush” because of its size that makes it the ideal tool to use when applying foundation, blush, contour, bronzer, highlight, setting powder and a lot more.

There’s a regular version of the Oval 7 in Elite Smoke and it costs 67 USD.

First, let’s address the fact that these brushes are pricey. I won’t lie. Then comes your next question which will be, Is it worth the price/hype?

Here are my thoughts:

Oval 7 is like a magic wand whenever I blend my blush, bronzer and highlighter. It’s never too much or too harsh. However, before I bought my Artis, I already tried MAC’s Oval 6 brush, and it’s basically a dupe for the Artis Oval 7.

As you can see, aside from the obvious difference in size,

• the bristles of the MAC Oval 6 is convexed while the Artis’ bristles are flat and
• the bristles of the MAC brush is more compact than the Artis. 

But if we discuss their function, they basically do the same thing. I didn’t notice any significant difference on how my makeup looks if I use the Artis or MAC Oval brush. As for the price, Artis Elite Smoke Oval 7 is priced at 67 USD or roughly 105 SGD (limited edition costs higher) while MAC Oval costs  76 SGD.

For Oval 3, I love using it as a “spotter” for my crease. I mean, I’d dab it on my eyeshadow and apply the shade on my crease. It makes the process a lot easier especially if you are doing a defined crease look. However, I’d still pick up my other regular brushes to finish the rest of the job.

Artis brushes are made exclusively with CosmeFibre, a revolutionary engineered fibre made for applying cosmetic and makeup products.

On Linear 1, well, this was the most untouched out of the 3. It’s good to use it for nose contouring, but I prefer using it for eyeliners.

VERDICT

In my opinion, Artis brushes are for personal use. These are not the same with the regular makeup brushes that you can use to anyone. I enjoy using them and now I understand the hype. Yes, it makes the application and blending of products easier, and the finish of your makeup looks more natural as compared to when you’re using a sponge.

But will they replace my brushes and sponges? Definitely NOT.

Do you need to buy them? Again, this is a personal choice.

I’m pretty sure that everyone is curious to try these brushes because of their unconventional look. If you’re a makeup enthusiast, then Artis can be part of your special collection.  Besides, you can always buy one or two pieces and not the entire collection. But if you don’t want to spend a lot for oval brushes, then I suggest that you try the MAC Oval brushes. I cannot recommend other (less expensive) brands since I haven’t tried & tested them.
