Tagged as the world’s most expensive foundation, I decided to dive in to discover what this foundation offers and how it differs from the brands that I tried so far.
PACKAGING
La Prairie is a Swiss luxury brand that focuses on delivering “ageless beauty and infinite luxury.” Given this and the hefty price of their products, my overall expectation is very high.
Inside the silver box are:
- Concealer + Foundation
- (1) Small concealer brush
- (1) mini sponge
- product stand that also serves as a mirror
The container has a liquid foundation AND concealer, so this is not a foundation concealer (because there is such a thing). So you get 2 products. The bottle may look small but you still get 30 ml (1.0 fl) worth of product, which is (I think) the standard size. This made me realize that the rest of the brands are just using bigger bottles/containers.
When you open the lid you will find the concealer, while you have to twist the silver cap for the foundation and it has an applicator that looks like a spatula.
SWATCHES
Here is a swatch comparison of La Prairie foundation with 2 of my favourite brands:
Product’s Promises:
CONCEALER
What to love:
BUT..
Berry’s Beauty Tip:
FOUNDATION
If I were to describe this foundation, I say that
It melts beautifully on the skin.
What to love:
- It has a medium, buildable coverage.
- It has a fresh, clean smell
- No sticky feeling and light on the face
- You can really feel that what you have on your skin is something luxurious if I may say.
- Blends beautifully
- Melts gorgeously on the skin
- I used it on my shots for my review of the Urban Decay x Gwen Stefani Lipsticks and Colourpop Ultra Satin Lip and you can tell that there is something different in my photos. Aside from the full makeup and new routine that I tried, it was definitely a good makeup day!
- It gives you a dewy look, without looking overly greasy.
As I have a combination skin, my T-zone can be very oily as I wear my makeup throughout the day. This is also the reason why I am not into dewy look (I prefer matte) because my face will be shiny for sure. Another factor is the humid weather that we have here that when you sum them up, bam! Oiliness.
I wore the foundation in two separate instances and noticed that my T-zone started to get a bit shiny after 2 hours. At first, I pat my face with a translucent powder but I realised that putting too much powder will lose “natural look” that the foundation gives. The second time was when I went out and after 5 hours (without touch ups), my makeup was still intact and it looks good – it’s that kind of normal dewiness of the skin (achievement unlocked!)😀
Please note that I did not use any mattfying or pore perfection primer when I tested it out because I want to see how the foundation will sit on my face. So I think that if you will use such primers, it may have better results. Despite that, it still wore for 8 hours on me.
BUT..
here comes the downside of this product.
Price
Again, it’s the world’s most expensive foundation and it is priced at 220 USD but in Singapore, it is more than 300 SGD. (I heard it was 350 SGD).
I bought mine at the Changi airport and it was originally priced at 306.20 SGD but they had a 15 SGD discount at the time of my purchase. My final bill was 291.20 SGD. So if say, the original price at the La Prairie counters is 350 SGD, then I saved 58.80 SGD.
SPF 15
As it only provides SPF 15, you will need to apply sunblock underneath.
Applicator
I personally prefer a pump bottle for sanitary reasons though I also understand that the packaging lets you have the most of your product.
OVERALL
To sum it up, I say that I am impressed with La Prairie’s Skin Caviar Concealer Foundation. This may not be for everyone as it is categorised as a luxury item. I don’t have a blemish-free skin but I love how my skin wore the product. So imagine if you have great skin, then without a doubt, you will look great with this foundation.
But if you will ask me if it is something that I will repurchase, then my answer at this moment will be NO. I think that it was a great product and I know that I will enjoy the rest of it until I finish the bottle but it is too expensive. The possibility to repurchase is there, but I need to save a lot so I can buy it again.😀
This and other La Prairie skincare products are available in Singapore. If you want to know more about the brand, you can visit www.laprairieswitzerland.com.
I hope you enjoyed this foundation review and until my next time!
